Student Ambassador Program [C-123]

KCC Student Ambassadors are a group of dedicated volunteers who work to help Kingsborough feel more like home to all of our students. Student Ambassadors are trained with knowledge of campus resources and the skills necessary to help at a wide range of campus events.

Student Ambassadors are currently found in the information booth next to the bookstore, answering questions in Engaged Kingsborough, or helping out at many campus events, wearing their Student Ambassador gear and a smile, to answer questions and assist however they can.

Peer mentors in Opening Doors, Wellness, ESL, College Discovery, Career Development and Experiential Learning, and the Men's Resource Center will also be part of the Student Ambassador program.

What do Student Ambassadors DO?

Student Ambassadors can be found all over campus, working to support their fellow students and share information about KCC's resources and programs. They do this by volunteering at campus events, staffing the information booth, giving peer-to-peer guidance in Engaged Kingsborough, and serving as peer mentors in Student Affairs areas all across campus.

How can I become a Student Ambassador?

Student Ambassador selection and training only happens once each year, with the selected students completing training in the spring then serving as Student Ambassadors during the following academic year.

Electronic applications will be available Spring 2020

After applying, eligible students will be asked to interview for the program. Individual interviews will begin in January, and group interviews will occur during the first two weeks of March. Following the group interview process, selected students will be invited to participate in the Student Ambassador Training Program.

What are the requirements to join?

To be eligible to serve as a Student Ambassador, you must maintain a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA and remain in good academic and judicial standing with the college. There are no other involvement or major requirements to be eligible. All eligible applicants will complete a short interview with a Student Life staff member and approximately 75 students will be selected to complete the training program.

What is training like?

Student Ambassador training lasts 8 weeks. During that time, students work in small training groups of 8-12 students, led by a faculty/staff facilitator and a student co-leader. During these training groups, students learn about campus resources and opportunities, develop personal and leadership skills, practice public speaking, and more. The highlight of training is a weekend retreat, where the group gets out of Brooklyn and spends a weekend working together and bonding. At the end of training, students attend a pinning ceremony and are officially recognized as Student Ambassadors.

What's in it for me?

Good question! Student Ambassadors are volunteers on campus, and are not paid for their service, however, there are many other benefits! Student Ambassadors meet a large group of students and faculty/staff from all over campus - our facilitators include faculty, ASAP staff, Student Life staff, the Director of Financial Aid, and the KCC Chief of Staff! Student Ambassadors also get some great gear, including bags, shirts, jackets, and personalized name tags and gain the types of skills that stick with them well after college: leadership, public speaking, confidence, problem solving, critical thinking, teamwork, responsibility, and more! MOST importantly, Student Ambassadors get a chance to help their fellow students, and play a big role in creating a culture of support and engagement on campus.
